I don't think his majesty's nature is all that complicated. And this is the first thing I've seen you act completely, ordinarily human about.
You don't have to actively seek to destroy a thing to sacrifice it. I wonder how long a fellow whose greatest aspiration is to be loved as your equal can endure you refusing him his basic rights as your 'friend'?
I haven't refused him anything. It is the king's choice to present him with a world where everything is as it was . . . even if it isn't my reality, there's no reason it can't be his.
No. I've played that hand enough times that I can't be surprised by it. But he doesn't strike me as that sort of person. Even if he chooses to accept the reality apart from you, he will still know it is apart. I'm sure of it. The question is how much and how fast it will break him, and if he'll find another way to break you first.
You forget it is not as dire a situation for him as all that. There are, after all, two of "Gilgamesh" in this place. While I am the original, perhaps he will take the one that will accept him as the true self. That is the path of least resistance.
If he was the type to take that path he wouldn't be your friend in the first place.
I asked him which of you is real to him, and he says you both are. Hmmm... and I don't think you'd admire anyone who couldn't follow through with their resolutions, so he can't be that easy to lead astray. Are you sure you aren't the one living in a fake reality?
In that particular case, because I place a great deal of value in my friends. Hm... which isn't to say that I haven't lost many and don't realize I will lose many more, but tearing down a forest is no great task to take back what is important to me.
Anyway, your relentless greed is one of the things I like best about you. So it's strange that the greedy king who clearly also values his friends still can't be bothered to make, take, or keep something so valuable simply because it once broke you.
Strange it may be, but that is the king's reality. To be unparalleled is inevitably to stand alone. Should that fact change, I'll notify you, I'm sure.
[i'm a helper. you're stupid. slides fingers over gil's neck, fingering the bandage idly]
I know what it means to desire two things that cannot both exist. And you could say that refusing to let go of either is what created this crack in me you find so interesting. It's possible you would crack too.
But I can say I preserved my nature, if not my sanity. Can you, greedy king?

I suppose so.

I was merely referring to a given title.

And why can't the unparalleled king create a reality in which he doesn't deny himself one of his greatest pleasures?

I'll repeat. It's surprising what people will accept when faced with a worse alternative.
